Use the Clone tool to copy one area of a photo to another. The tool is often used to repair damaged photos. The tool consists of a Source and a Destination crosshair. During the operation, the pixel color at the position of the Source crosshair is copied to that of the Destination crosshair.

To find the tool:

  1. Click the Photos button on the Navigation panel.

  2. Click the Edit Photo icon located below the buttons.

  3. Find the Clone tool on the Toolbar.

To clone an area of the photo:

  1. Click the Clone tool on the Toolbar. The mouse cursor is displayed as a crosshair.

  2. Adjust the size of the Clone tool to suit the type of work you are doing. Do so using the Brush Preview located in the Settings area.

  3. Click the area of the photo you wish to clone, or copy. This is usually an undamaged area of the photo such as a background or texture. The original crosshair, now referred to as the Source, is "dropped" at the selected area and a second crosshair, referred to as the Destination, is displayed.

  4. Click the mouse at the area you wish to repair. The two crosshairs are now linked - as you drag the mouse, the area under the Source is copied to that under the Destination. You can copy as much of the original image as you wish simply by moving the Destination crosshair around the new area. Remember to adjust the pen setting (larger or smaller) to obtain the best results.

To start cloning from a different area:

  1. While the two crosshairs are linked, press and hold the [Ctrl] key.

  2. Move the Destination crosshair to the new area you wish to clone from, and click the mouse. The Source crosshair is dropped at the new location.

  3. Follow Step 4 above.
